Abstract
This chapter will examine relevant pieces of legislation in the United States and Canada that impact individuals with disabilities. It will look at demographics in disability in the United States, policy making in action, policy development, and policies over the decade. This chapter is certainly not intended to be an exhaustive accounting of all disability legislation. Most importantly, however, it discusses how the process of legislation shapes the lives of and is shaped by the lives of individuals with disabilities.
