O descarte incorreto do lixo ou resíduos sólidos corresponde a uma prática que ocasiona problemas e impactos ambientais diversos para a população local e para o meio ambiente de maneira geral. Essa prática está atrelada ao processo de formação dos bairros e principalmente pelos problemas referentes aos serviços de coleta, presença de atividades que ocasiona o espalhamento dos lixos nas ruas, acondicionamento inapropriado e a presença de lugares que passam a receber esse material sem infraestrutura recebendo a denominação popular de “lixeiras viciadas”. Para a realização desta pesquisa optou-se pelo levantamento bibliográfico concernente ao tema, com enfoque na cidade de Manaus e no bairro do Coroado, posteriormente realizou-se trabalho de campo no primeiro semestre de 2023, por meio de entrevistas abertas com moradores e funcionários dos estabelecimentos de atendimento à saúde. Identificou-se que o processo de formação do bairro foi marcado pela pressão popular com uma ocupação que não teve um ordenamento gestado pelo Estado, mas pela população civil organizada, que estabeleceu ruas e casas a partir de 1970. Além disto, nota-se aspectos geográficos e de saúde que remetem pelos problemas centrados no descarte incorreto do lixo ocasionando impactos diversos para a população local e ao meio ambiente em geral.
