Abstract
A migração é fenômeno crescente e de origem variada, no caso de Cuba está fortemente presente em sua história e entre as principais características da sua sociedade. Após o final da Guerra Fria e o colapso da União Soviética, Cuba deixou de receber ajuda financeira da Rússia, até então seu principal parceiro econômico e político. Esta situação impulsionou uma crise econômica e abastecimento nos anos de 1990 na ilha, sendo chamado de ‘Período Especial’. Durante este período várias pessoas buscaram sair da ilha, tornando-se conhecida a figura do ‘balseiro’, pessoa que buscava sair do local por meio de embarcações precárias. Esses aspectos juntamente com as consequências advindas fizeram surgir um tipo de migrante com características específicas que são tratadas nessa pesquisa. O objetivo deste trabalho então é analisar a migração de profissionais cubanos conforme o conceito de ‘imigrante ideal’, de Fábio Koifman, e demais conceitos relativos à migração internacional, como ‘migrante qualificado’. Trata-se de um recorte de pesquisa realizado na Dissertação de mestrado em andamento do Programa de Pós-Graduação em Sociedade e Fronteiras (PPGSOF) da Universidade Federal de Roraima (UFRR).
