Cette thèse analyse les conditions d’émergence d’innovations mêlant la création artistique et l’utilisation de technologies numériques, que nous appelons innovations techno-créatives. Dans un contexte où de nombreuses villes voient ces deux activités se co-localiser sur leurs territoires, la compréhension des processus d’innovation sous-jacents devient un enjeu important pour ces acteurs. Pour appréhender ce phénomène, le cadre théorique construit pour cette thèse réunit des recherches en management de l’innovation, management stratégique et économie géographique, en vue d’étudier le triple encastrement social – spatial – cognitif des communautés d’innovation. La thèse propose le concept de circulations préférentielles comme outil d’analyse permettant de contribuer au management du processus d’innovation collective. La thèse s’appuie sur le cas du vidéo-mapping, analysé à Nantes et de Montréal. La méthodologie employée est mixte. Elle se compose d’entretiens semi-directifs et des analyses de réseaux. Les résultats de cette thèse révèlent comment la conjonction de trois mécanismes d’intermédiation (brokers, lieux, évènements) forme une structure favorable à l’épanouissement de communautés d'innovation sur un territoire. De cette manière, la thèse contribue à la littérature de recherches en management de l’innovation, et offre des implications managériales au sujet de la gestion de ces communautés et des stratégies territoriales en faveur de l’innovation.
