Abstract

Le « plâtre de la montagne » vendu aux artisans et artistes toulousains entre les XVIIe et XVIIIe siècles provient des petites Pyrénées par la Garonne. Sa production va crescendo au fil de ces deux siècles, suivant en cela les évolutions de l’architecture et de la décoration. Les procédés liés à l’extraction du gypse, à la fabrication du plâtre, à son transport et à son commerce dans la capitale languedocienne se découvrent à travers les archives. Compiler les sources du XVIIe au XIXe siècle permet d’obtenir une vision de l’économie de ce matériau : de la plâtrière aux bateliers et du marchand au chantier.
