Cette étude situe le roman de Patricia Godbout dans la continuité de ses travaux historiques et théoriques l’ayant amenée à dépouiller de nombreuses archives d’écrivaines et d’écrivains. De celles-ci aux archives familiales dont la narratrice du roman se trouve la dépositaire se révèle pourtant une distance qui est l’espace même du romanesque. Plus que l’histoire d’une famille, Bleu bison devient l’exploration d’une surabondance documentaire qui confinerait apparemment au chaos si elle ne trouvait son foyer en la narratrice elle-même, attentive à recueillir finement des traces, surtout celles de son frère, artiste inaccompli qui s’est donné la mort. L’archivage aura au bout du compte restauré une continuité et une certaine unité.
