Ce texte s’intéresse à la pratique largement attestée dans la Provence des xive et xve siècles de la supplique politique capitulée, soumise aux princes en plusieurs articles par les communautés urbaines et villageoises. Pareilles requêtes se multiplient à partir des années 1380-1390, au moment de l’établissement dans le comté de Provence de la seconde maison d’Anjou dont la légitimité pouvait apparaître fragile et qui fut sujette à une importante rébellion. Instrument de dialogue et de pacification, inspirée d’une pratique développée par les assemblées d’états, la supplique capitulée s’impose comme forme documentaire bien établie dès les premières années du xve siècle et elle porte sur une très grande variété de sujets. Dans le cadre d’un projet de recherche plus large, la présente contribution examine, sur la forme et sur le fond, les suppliques présentées par quatre localités urbaines et villageoises entre 1402 et 1482, situées au cœur de la négociation du contrat politique.
