Abstract
Abstract Surface morphology of 1018 steel samples was studied after early stages of gaseous nitriding using AFM technique. Oscillation in measured roughness and gas/solid interface area values at different stages of process has been reported. The amplitude and period of such oscillation depends on initial surface finishing.
