La pèdisyon est une maladie populaire dont sont victimes les femmes rurales et urbaines d’Haïti,
\net dont le traitement relève de la compétence des figures thérapeutiques traditionnelles. Cependant, lors des
\nconsultations médicales, de nombreuses femmes, parfois accompagnées de leur mari, parlent de cette maladie
\nautodiagnostiquée afin d’y trouver une réponse concrète. Dans une société où la majorité des femmes ignorent
\nles causes objectives de l’infertilité et de la stérilité, et où il faut avoir un ou plusieurs enfants pour être perçue
\ncomme une femme normale, il est permis de penser qu’un foetus dont le développement est bloqué par la
\nnature ou par une force surnaturelle peut passer plus de neuf mois, voire des années dans les entrailles de sa
\nmère. L’objectif principal de cet article est de décrire les représentations causales et thérapeutiques associées
\nà la pèdisyon ainsi que les enjeux socio-psychologiques qui en résultent.
