Abstract
La crise de l’autorité scolaire a été décrite de nombreuses fois, mais pour en comprendre l’origine et la nature, il faut s’interroger plus profondément sur le rôle de l’école dans notre culture et son histoire. L’idée de progrès comme l’a montré Umberto Eco contient déjà la mise en cause de l’autorité. La modernité éducative a, ensuite, contribué à remettre en cause la légitimité de l’école. Dans la mesure où, à la scolarisation de la société, s’est ajouté l’apprentissage tout au long de la vie, l’individu étant considéré comme responsable de lui-même, l’école a perdu son rôle de formation. Aujourd’hui, les technologies de la communication amplifient un processus d’infantilisation des sujets qui trouve sa source bien en amont. L’autonomie n’est qu’apparente dans cet environnement qui ignore les besoins des enfants, en donnant l’illusion de la liberté aux adultes.
