Elis Regina teve uma carreira muito curta e muito produtiva, sendo considerada até hoje, mais de 35 anos após sua morte, uma das maiores cantoras brasileiras. Viveu em uma época conturbada para os artistas, de ditadura militar, na qual era muito difícil se posicionar e conseguir a continuidade de seu trabalho, de forma isenta. Dona de uma personalidade forte, foi marcante como defensora da classe artística e dos direitos das mulheres. A sua trajetória na música brasileira é o objeto deste artigo que aborda tanto o seu desenvolvimento técnico e cênico quanto seu amadurecimento do ponto de vista de comportamento e relacionamento com a mídia e com a política.
