Problématique. Devenir parent peut susciter de l'anxiété chez certains. Cette anxiété peut avoir des répercussions sur la famille et devenir une source de stress pour le coparent. L’objectif de cette étude était d’explorer les stratégies d’adaptation employées par des pères et des mères pour faire face à l’anxiété de leur coparent lors de la transition à la parentalité. Méthode. Des entrevues réalisées avec six mères et quatre pères en transition à la parentalité ont sondé leur expérience liée aux stratégies d’adaptation employées. Une analyse thématique a été menée à l’aide d’une grille de codification élaborée sur la base du modèle intégratif Coping Circumplex Model (CCM). Résultats. La recherche de soutien envers autrui, la planification et la mise en action de solutions concrètes ainsi que l’inhibition ou l’évacuation des émotions sont des stratégies fréquemment rapportées par les parents qui composent avec un coparent anxieux lors de la transition à la parentalité. Les types de stratégies varient selon qu’ils visent un mieux-être personnel, du coparent/couple ou de sa famille. Retombées. Ces résultats invitent à considérer les répercussions de l’anxiété d’un coparent sur l’autre parent lors de la transition à la parentalité et les besoins des deux parents pour soutenir la famille.
