Abstract
Le mariage de raison entre l’automobile et la banlieue d’après-guerre n’a pas déçu ceux qui l’ont célébré. Il a résisté au passage des décennies et aux critiques qui n’ont eu de cesse de dénoncer les coûts sociaux, économiques et environnementaux de cette alliance. Bien qu’on reconnaisse que la dépendance à l’automobile est inévitable dans certains milieux, nombreux sont ceux qui soutiennent que des solutions de rechange à l’auto solo existent et doivent être mises en œuvre en banlieue. Les élus de la Communauté métropolitaine de Montréal sont du nombre. Mais le terreau est-il aussi fertile que certains documents de planification le suggèrent ? C’est à cette épreuve du terrain que le présent ouvrage soumet les convergences urbanisme-transport explorées depuis plusieurs années dans les banlieues de la région métropolitaine de Montréal.
