Abstract
U n ami souverainiste me confiait que sa joie de vivre un jour l'indépendance du Québec serait assombrie par la perte éventuelle de nombreux amis canadiens de langue anglaise.Il évoquait les personnalités que sa vie universitaire l'avait amené à côtoyer, des hommes et des femmes de grande culture, généreux et soucieux de comprendre le Québec et de fraterniser avec des Québécois.Il est bien vrai que les tensions politiques qui ont tissé la trame de toute notre histoire ne devraient pas occulter les grands moments où la bonne volonté et la bonne entente se sont manifestées de part et d'autre chez les deux peuples fondateurs de la fédération canadienne.Au cours des quelque soixante dernières années surtout, nous avons vécu des événements qui auraient fort bien pu donner lieu à un aménagement constitutionnel satisfaisant aussi bien pour le Québec que pour les autres régions du Canada.
