Abstract
En tant que groupe de jeunes humoristes (1961-1972), les Cyniques sont connus pour leur ton irrespectueux et leurs envolées iconoclastes sur des sujets tabous tels que la sexualité et le clergé. Leur anticléricalisme spectaculaire dans un milieu étudiant en effervescence a donné à penser qu’ils avaient été le fer de lance de la laïcité au Québec. L’étude du contexte et des textes des Cyniques vise précisément à prendre la mesure de leur apport à la critique de la religion dans la forme spécifique de leurs interventions. Notre hypothèse de travail veut aussi que ce fut autant la manière (milieu étudiant, médium du spectacle, langage populaire) que la matière qui a été leur marque.
