À une époque où la Chine devient un acteur incontournable dans l’économie et les relations internationales, l'objectif principal de ce livre est de mieux comprendre les relations triangulaires entre les cosmologies chinoises (où dominent les valeurs confucéennes et la pensée analogique), les cosmologies occidentales (judéo-chrétiennes ou naturalistes depuis la Modernité) et les cosmologies analogiques et animiques des peuples autochtones des Amériques et de Sibérie. Les études rassemblées ici permettent d’examiner les points d'accrochage, comme les obstacles culturels qui marquent ces relations au cours de plusieurs siècles. Plus d’une vingtaine de chercheurs canadiens, chinois et européens issus de plusieurs disciplines des sciences humaines et sociales (histoire, anthropologie, philosophie, etc.), proposent diverses études de cas qui se structurent autour de deux grands axes : un axe anthropologique qui aborde l’univers chamanique des deux côtés du Pacifique, véritable soubassement et lieu de jonction entre la Chine ancienne et le monde autochtone, ainsi qu’un axe historique qui traite du rôle complexe de différents médiateurs culturels, comme ces nombreux missionnaires occidentaux qui, depuis le xvie siècle, ont joué un rôle déterminant dans ces rencontres de l’Orient avec l’Occident. 本论著由二十多位加拿大、中国与欧洲的学者共同撰述,从跨学科角度对亚洲、美洲等地区萨满教以及西方传教士在中国的传教活动进行了深入的探讨。
