Abstract

In this chapter we discuss the main impacts of climate change on astronomical observations, including operational activities and data quality. We look at how a changing climate affects observatories on large scales and how it poses difficulty inbuilding and maintaining observatories. We discuss how changes in the atmosphere can affect how frequently one can observe as well as the quality of the final scientific data product. We then present the latest studies that look at climate change and astronomical sites, discussing important parameters the community should monitor to better understand how climate change is affecting a given astronomical site. We urge the community for active monitoring of the weather and climate at observatories to enable better preparation for the future of ground-based telescopes.
