Abstract
L’article interrogera le pouvoir heuristique et critique que revêt le concept de travail émotionnel. En quoi le travail émotionnel est-il un travail ? Requiert-il un effort conscient et une stratégie intentionnelle et rationnelle ? Quels problèmes émergent lorsque le travail émotionnel se déploie dans la sphère productive et au sein de rapports de coopération et de subordination ? Génère-t-il lui-même des émotions ? Et quels statuts et rôles attribuer aux émotions dans ces processus de transformation au travail et par le travail ? À une réflexion épistémologique, sera articulée dans un second temps une étude empirique réalisée dans le milieu universitaire qui montre, en dépit d’un déni défensif et d’une peur omniprésente, la diversité des émotions et leur rôle actif dans l’expérience du travail. Les émotions en viennent alors à opérer un travail de liaison et de résistance. En adoptant une définition relationnelle des émotions, on peut ainsi concevoir une forme de travail émotionnel non intentionnelle mais non moins cruciale pour façonner et comprendre le rapport au travail et les dynamiques professionnelles.
