Des transformations importantes s’observent dans le milieu de l’enseignement supérieur depuis déjà une vingtaine d’années. Ces transformations amènent à repenser les pratiques enseignantes pour qu’elles soient davantage centrées sur les apprentissages plutôt que l’enseignement. Ainsi, plusieurs enseignant∙es choisissent d’intégrer des méthodes pédagogiques actives (MPA) à leur pratique, qui se distinguent d’autres méthodes en modifiant la nature des activités d’apprentissage qu’effectuent les étudiant.es. lorsqu’ils et elles sont en classe. Une MPA amène les étudiant∙es à effectuer des tâches de haut niveau cognitif, au sens d’Anderson et al. (2001), lorsqu’ils et elles sont en classe. Ce numéro thématique vise donc à présenter cinq recherches se déroulant en contexte de formation universitaire de 1er cycle où les retombées de la mise en œuvre d’une MPA pour les étudiant∙es ont été étudiées. Ces retombées portent sur les apprentissages, l’engagement ou les processus cognitifs mobilisés par les étudiant∙es durant ou à la suite de l’expérimentation d’une MPA. Les résultats encourageants de ces études soutiennent la pertinence des MPA pour favoriser l’apprentissage et l’engagement en enseignement supérieur.
