Pseudofermion functional renormalization group study of dipolar-octupolar pyrochlore magnets

Abstract
Motivated by recent experiments on <a:math xmlns:a="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML"><a:mrow><a:msub><a:mi>Ce</a:mi><a:mn>2</a:mn></a:msub><a:msub><a:mi>Zr</a:mi><a:mn>2</a:mn></a:msub><a:msub><a:mi mathvariant="normal">O</a:mi><a:mn>7</a:mn></a:msub></a:mrow></a:math> that reveal a dynamic, liquidlike ground state, we study the nearest-neighbor XYZ Hamiltonian of dipolar-octupolar pyrochlore magnets with the pseudofermion functional renormalization group (PFFRG), which is numerically implemented by the software. Taking the interaction between the octupolar components to be dominant and antiferromagnetic, we map out the phase diagram demarcating the quantum disordered and magnetically ordered states. We identify four distinct phases, namely, the 0-flux and <c:math xmlns:c="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML"><c:mi>π</c:mi></c:math>-flux quantum spin ices and the all-in-all-out magnetic orders along the local <d:math xmlns:d="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML"><d:mi>z</d:mi></d:math> and <e:math xmlns:e="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML"><e:mi>x</e:mi></e:math> axes. We further use the static two-spin correlation output by the PFFRG algorithm to compute the polarized neutron scattering cross sections, which are able to capture several qualitative features observed experimentally, in the materially relevant parameter regime that stabilizes the <f:math xmlns:f="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML"><f:mi>π</f:mi></f:math>-flux quantum spin ice. Our results provide support for a quantum spin-liquid ground state in <g:math xmlns:g="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML"><g:mrow><g:msub><g:mi>Ce</g:mi><g:mn>2</g:mn></g:msub><g:msub><g:mi>Zr</g:mi><g:mn>2</g:mn></g:msub><g:msub><g:mi mathvariant="normal">O</g:mi><g:mn>7</g:mn></g:msub></g:mrow></g:math>.
