Abstract
This Afterword reflects on some of the burning issues that transcend current research efforts, somewhat still fragmented, and draws readers’ attention to three main tensions around offshore schools that future research would have to look at. First tension, ‘Geopolitics matters’ captures the significance and impact of geopolitical changes on the development and viability of offshore school programs. Second, ‘Social and cultural tensions: Navigating entangled workplaces’ highlights the challenges different stakeholders face in the workplaces of offshore schools. Third, ‘Tensions underlying curriculum and pedagogical encounters’ shed light on the fundamental ideological differences between host countries and Canada and the resulting friction of curriculum and pedagogy and differing worldviews towards offshore school education. Through examining the impact of these tensions and contradictions on offshore school programs, the chapter provides some final thoughts on offshore school programs and suggests directions for future research and practice that can generate critical insights into these realities.
