Abstract
Par l’analyse de livres, de films, de revues savantes et de parcours touristiques et patrimoniaux au Québec, au Canada et au Brésil, on compare dans cet ouvrage des régions des Amériques selon des perspectives culturelles plus qu’historiques; on y découvre des analogies et des tendances, plus que des différences. Les comparaisons reposent sur des thématiques et des discours fondés sur des paradigmes tels que barbarie/civilisation, intérieur/extérieur, frontière/frontier. L’intérêt de ces comparaisons qui évitent de passer par la référence européenne est que, dans les rencontres entre immigrants et gens établis, ou entre autochtones et non-autochtones, une nouvelle identité équilibrée par le mouvement peut advenir. Cette identité tend vers le fluide du réseautage et échappe aux dualismes de souche/venu d’ailleurs, local/étranger, longue durée/courte durée.
