Abstract
Este artículo analiza la figura del consejero regio en el Libro de los estados de don Juan Manuel. A partir de las investigaciones de Fernando Gómez Redondo y Leonardo Funes, se propone que este personaje literario es el transmisor de la ideología del autor, la clerecía señorial. Para ello se estudia el contexto político de la obra, su relación con la literatura consiliar producida en Castilla en los siglos XIII y XIV y los principios orientadores del comportamiento transmitidos por el consejero – buen seso, entendimiento y letradura. Se concluye estableciendo que la figura y su mensaje didáctico constituyen una apelación directa a Alfonso XI en un intento de instituir un nuevo ordenamiento cortesano monárquico-nobiliario que restaure los poderes de la alta aristocracia.
