Abstract
Depuis les années 1990, la question du pillage des oeuvres d’art sous l’Occupation et des oeuvres non restituées occupe le devant de l’actualité, nous donnant la fausse impression qu’il en a toujours été ainsi. Les faits ont été exposés sur le mode du scandale et révélés dans une atmosphère de polémique mettant fin à près de quarante ans de silence. Cet article, présenté sous la forme de bilan historique, revient sur l’évolution mémorielle du pillage des oeuvres d’art en France sous l’Occupation, sur les raisons de ce silence pendant de nombreuses décennies jusqu’à sa redécouverte ces dernières années. 77 ans après la Seconde Guerre mondiale, la question des oeuvres d’art spoliées reste toujours d’actualité.
