Perpétrée à Nîmes par des calvinistes en 1567, la Michelade est l’un des massacres les plus connus commis en France pendant les guerres de Religion. Afin de mettre en lumière ses représentations sur le long terme, cet article examine les travaux des historiens catholiques et protestants publiés depuis le XVIe siècle sous l’angle du scandale et du silence. Il montre notamment que, jusqu’aux années 1680, les auteurs issus des deux confessions n’évoquent presque jamais l’épisode, avant que des catholiques ne commencent à le relater et à le condamner. L’opposition des deux historiographies perdure jusqu’aux années 1960. Depuis lors, la discrétion protestante et les dénonciations catholiques ont disparu des publications des universitaires.
