Abstract
Abstract From 1919 to 1931, African North Americans, through word and deed, engaged in cross-border messianic Pan-Africanisms, a corollary of widespread racial terrorism and Black people’s reflections on ancient Nilotic civilizations. The chapter begins with an examination of Black intellectuals’ writings on African history and ethnology in the long nineteenth century. This intellectual climate underscored self-determination, informing the messianic and revolutionary dimensions of Garveyism. The final part of the chapter scrutinizes editorials in the Canadian newspaper the Dawn of Tomorrow, which African American expatriates founded to unify Black people and inspire global messianic liberation.
