Abstract
Cet entretien restitue les grandes lignes du positionnement du Canada sur la guerre en Ukraine depuis février 2022. Le consensus apparu au début du conflit entre les partis politiques canadiens sur un narratif forgé autour d’une guerre d’agression de l’Ukraine par une Russie impérialiste a tendance à s’éroder un peu deux ans plus tard. Une fraction des électeurs conservateurs reproduit des schémas que l’on observe dans le camp républicain aux États-Unis, à savoir une certaine tentation isolationniste, et l’idée que le Canada « en fait trop » dans l’aide militaire à l’Ukraine. Cette idée est pourtant en contradiction totale avec la posture réelle du Canada. Non seulement celui-ci est assez suiviste des États-Unis et des alliés européens de l’Ukraine, mais il y a un décalage entre le discours canadien de solidarité avec Kyiv et le niveau effectif de livraison d’armes du Canada à l’Ukraine. Cette posture un peu « détachée » du Canada vis-à-vis de la guerre en Ukraine, sa dépendance stratégique à l’égard des États-Unis et son niveau de dépense militaire insuffisant au sein de l’OTAN sont autant de preuves d’une autonomie stratégique limitée.
