Plusieurs approches d’usage du cinéma ont vu le jour pour la formation à l’éthique professionnelle des enseignants (Robichaud, 2022). Principalement orientés par la formation à la conscience critique, la réflexivité ou le développement de différents processus identificatoires, ces usages nous invitent à approfondir la notion même d’expérience cinématographique ainsi que la façon dont elle peut s’inscrire dans le cadre d’une formation continue à l’éthique. Le philosophe Stanley Cavell (1926-2018) offre une vision de l’expérience cinématographique qui met au premier plan l’idée d’une sensibilité éthique de nature transformatrice. Cette sensibilité se manifeste chez Cavell par le biais d’une conception circulaire de l’expérience qui amène le sujet à partir de la réception première d’un film pour ensuite s’orienter vers le visionnement d’autres films qui le rendent apte à décrire ce qui compte (matter) pour lui sur le plan moral (Cavell, 1971/1999, p. 12). Cette éducation morale par l’expérience cinématographique continue implique, d’une part, de considérer des critères à utiliser pour former des corpus de films en contexte de formation à l’éthique et, d’autre part, de donner des assises théoriques pour fonder le parcours des personnes étudiantes au sein d’oeuvres du répertoire cinématographique. Nous traitons dans le cadre de cet article ces aspects en ayant recours à l’expérience du cinéma chez Cavell et notamment à la façon dont ce dernier entrevoit les notions d’interprétation et de genre cinématographiques.
