Abstract
Céline Dion’s <italic>A New Day . . .</italic> residency in Las Vegas has become a show not only defining the French Canadian chanteuse’s career but through parody and satire has begun to redefine how the world understands and engages with her. Dion’s performer-audience interactions give us glimpses into her personality and humanity, but can often be quite bizarre in nature when examined outside of the confines of Las Vegas. This chapter examines and analyzes key performer-audience interactions from the <italic>A New Day . . .</italic> residency to explore how they have constructed new meanings in Dion’s relationships with her audience. While Las Vegas itself is often a parody of the “real world” with its celebrity impersonators and replicas of landmarks, this time a focus is placed on what happens when a product of Vegas itself is reflected, subjected to satire and parody, and replicated outside of its borders.
