Abstract
De l’automne 2020 au printemps 2022, le monde universitaire québécois a vécu un débat intense sur la liberté universitaire. Mis en branle par la suspension d’une chargée de cours de l’université d’Ottawa pour avoir simplement utilisé le mot « nigger » dans un contexte académique, ce débat a finalement abouti à la création par le gouvernement du Québec d’une commission indépendante ayant pour mission d’analyser la question de la liberté universitaire et de proposer des actions dans le but de la reconnaître, de la promouvoir et de la protéger au sein des universités québécoises. Ces travaux ont finalement mené à l’adoption, en juin 2022, de la « Loi sur la liberté académique dans le milieu universitaire » (loi 32). Cet article présente le contexte de création de cette commission, dont l’auteur a été membre, de même que les débats ayant entouré la publication du rapport et l’adoption de la loi 32 par l’Assemblée nationale du Québec.
