À partir des résultats d’une étude qualitative, conduite en contexte pandémique (2020-2023), notre contribution s’intéresse aux apports de la participation sociale des personnes aînées au regard du développement des communautés. Le concept de la participation sociale en gérontologie et son articulation avec le développement des communautés locales seront mis en perspective, puis le cadre méthodologique sera exposé. Les résultats révèlent que, contrairement aux idées reçues qui positionnent les personnes aînées comme des réceptacles passifs de soin, elles peuvent agir comme moteur de l’action collective; elles sont partie prenante du système local d’action et développent des initiatives favorisant l’innovation socioterritoriale afin de répondre à un problème social ou à un besoin de la communauté. Leurs contributions participatives favorisent le développement de communautés riches et résilientes.
