Abstract
Biens communs, ressources partagées, les langues vivantes appartiennent à tous ceux et celles qui s'expriment à travers elles. Il est donc normal que chacun se fasse une opinion sur ce qu'est sa propre langue, quand ce n'est pas sur ce qu'elle devrait être. Idéalisé par les uns, dénigré par les autres, le français ne fait pas exception. Même si on en parle beaucoup, il demeure encore trop souvent mal connu d'une large part de ses usagers. Que sait-on vraiment de son fonctionnement réel, de ses possibilités d'adaptation ? Où le parle-t-on et à quel titre ? Pourquoi les Québécois le parlent-ils différemment des Français et des autres francophones ? Peut-on dire qu'ils le parlent mieux ou moins bien ? Quel est son avenir au Canada et au Québec ? C'est à ces questions et à bien d'autres encore que des universitaires répondent, en termes clairs et accessibles, afin de permettre aux francophones du Québec de mieux apprivoiser cette grande langue qui leur appartient et qu'ils partagent avec des millions d'autres à travers le monde.
