Pendahuluan: Nyeri kepala primer dan insomnia merupakan dua keluhan yang sering dijumpai pada remaja khususnya pada mahasiswa tingkat akhir. Nyeri kepala menjadi suatu permasalahan yang akan timbul pada mahasiswa, yang diakibatkan oleh tekanan emosional (stres, depresi, panik), sehingga dapat menyebabkan berkurangnya kualitas tidur dapat timbulnya gangguan tidur salah satunya seperti insomnia. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui hubungan antara kejadian nyeri kepala primer dengan kejadian insomnia pada mahasiswa tingkat akhir Fakultas Keperawatan Universitas Riau. Metode: Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian kuantitatif menggunakan metode penelitian deskriptif korelasional dengan pendekatan cross sectional. Sampel penelitian berjumlah 142 responden yang diambil berdasarkan kriteria inklusi menggunakan teknik total sampling. Alat pengumpul data menggunakan Headache Intake Questionnaire, Cleaveland Clinic Canada untuk mengukur nyeri kepala primer dan kuesioner KSPBJ - Insomnia Rating Scale untuk mengukur insomnia. Analisa data menggunakan uji chi square dengan α = 0,05. Hasil: Analisis univariat didapatkan 67 responden mengalami nyeri kepala migrain (47,2%), 56 responden mengalami nyeri kepala tipe tegang atau tension type headache (TTH) (39,4%), dan 79 responden mengalami insomnia ringan (55,6%). Hasil uji statistik chi square didapatkan p value 0,025 (p 0,05). Kesimpulan: Terdapat hubungan antara kejadian nyeri kepala primer dengan kejadian insomnia pada mahasiswa tingkat akhir Fakultas Keperawatan Universitas Riau.
