Abstract
Depuis l’émergence des francophones dans ce secteur de l’économie durant les années 1930 et 1940, jusqu’au mouvement actuel de démutualisation des principales sociétés, l’industrie de l’assurance de personnes a connu des progrès considérables au Québec. La réforme des lois et règlements et l’élargissement de la gamme de produits offerts par les compagnies en réponse aux besoins de la population ont favorisé ce développement. Les assureurs québécois ont été à l’affût des nouvelles tendances apparues aux États-Unis. En matière de décloisonnement des services financiers, ils ont même été à l’avant-garde au pays. À l’heure de la mondialisation des marchés, ils se trouvent confrontés à de nouveaux défis liés à une concurrence croissante des autres institutions financières, aux changements technologiques, au vieillissement de la population, pour ne nommer que ceux-là.
