Abstract
As someone born and raised in Colombia, this paper is a discovery of what being Indigenous means within my country. This chapter reflects on my own experience as a student, a woman, and as someone who knows little about her own culture and roots. It has been an opportunity to talk about struggles the community still endures and how disabilities are perceived within education and daily life. It is a self-discovery journey in which I explore my roots, my country’s belief system, and how being Indigenous is still a taboo. This is a way of paying homage to my ancestors, my parents, my grandparents, and everyone who did not have a voice before. I graduated from the Pontificia Universidad Javeriana and the University of Ottawa.
