Abstract
Cet article s’intéresse à la manière dont les voyageurs français du xviie siècle témoignent des difficultés régulièrement rencontrées dans les Indes portugaises, en particulier à Goa. À travers l’étude de six auteurs (Henri de Feynes, François Pyrard de Laval, Jean Mocquet, François de La Boullaye-Le Gouz, Jean-Baptiste Tavernier et Charles Dellon), il montre que la méfiance à la fois politique et religieuse dont les Français sont victimes, et qui peut conduire à leur incarcération, les amène à présenter leur passage dans la capitale de l’Estado da Índia comme une véritable épreuve qualifiante.
