Abstract
Les écrits de Henry David Thoreau se sont imposés au Québec à partir des années 1970, avec la venue d’une nouvelle génération d’écrivains nés aux environs de 1945 (Pierre Morency, André Major, Yvon Rivard, François Hébert, Jean-Pierre Issenhuth). Cet article vise à saisir quelques-unes des modalités de l’influence exercée par Thoreau sur les écrivains québécois, tout en mettant l’emphase sur deux romanciers emblématiques du phénomène de l’américanité, Andrée A. Michaud et Louis Hamelin, qui ont fait de Thoreau une importante figure d’identification, en la situant dans une réflexion sur la figure du double. Dans le roman Mirror Lake (2006) d’Andrée A. Michaud, ce phénomène d’identification est exprimé au moyen d’une réflexion sur la métempsychose, tandis que dans le roman de Louis Hamelin, Un lac le matin (2023), Thoreau devient un personnage familier grâce à sa relation particulière avec un Franco-Américain nommé Alex Thérien.
