Abstract
Henry Daniel Thielcke (1788-1874) a failli passer dans les craques de l'Histoire. L'auteur résume ici le parcours fascinant d'un peintre né à Buckingham Palace et qui a évolué au sein de la famille royale britannique jusqu'en 1820, pour s'exiler ensuite en Écosse (1820-1831), à Québec (1832-1854) et à Chicago (1854-1874). Peintre sous-estimé et méconnu, Thielcke était pourtant un peintre talentueux et résilient, qui fut poussé au nomadisme par un curieux destin. Cette enquête journalistique de longue haleine a débuté en 2006 dans la foulée des recherches en histoire de l'art entreprises par David Karel et Annie Fraser. Cet essai est un devoir de mémoire.
