Abstract
Quel est l’état de la démocratie municipale québécoise ? Comment se déroule la politique à l’échelle locale? Quelles sont les forces politiques en présence ? Dans cet ouvrage, une équipe interdisciplinaire de chercheurs explore cette question en dressant le portrait politique des plus grandes villes du Québec aux lendemains des élections municipales de 2009. Dans le domaine des études électorales, contrairement aux autres paliers de gouvernement, l’échelle politique municipale demeure rarement étudiée au Québec. Si ce constat est également avéré dans d’autres pays (en France et aux États-Unis par exemple), il existe cependant dans ces pays une production scientifique reliée à ce thème d’étude, alors que l’intérêt pour ce champ de recherches semble quasi inexistant dans le contexte québécois. En mettant en évidence les changements mais également les continuités qui caractérisent le portrait électoral des plus grandes villes du Québec, ce livre décrit tant les particularités que les divergences des municipalités à l’étude, tout en posant les premiers jalons d’une réflexion plus vaste sur la dimension électorale de la démocratie municipale.
