L’association des zouaves de Québec a œuvré dans la société québécoise pendant près d’un siècle. N’eût été la donation de son patrimoine au Musée de l’Amérique française en 1993, sa disparition serait probablement passée inaperçue par la majorité de nos contemporains, les zouaves ayant depuis la fin des années soixante quasiment cessé toute manifestation publique officielle. Or, une formation qui évolue sur près d’un siècle (1899-1993) et qui offre à un musée un fonds d’archives composé de plus de mille objets a sûrement bien des choses à nous apprendre. Cet ouvrage propose une histoire de zouaves pontificaux québécois au XXe siècle. Il veut également rendre hommage à tous ceux qui ont été associés au mouvement zouave et laisser, dans la mémoire des Québécois, une idée plus noble de cette association que celle qu’évoquent des expressions courantes et péjoratives telles que « T’as l’air d’un zouave! » ou « Fais pas le zouave! »
