Abstract
Scaffolding is essential for inquiry approaches, yet little is known about how it is designed into inquiry based labs (IBL) in science courses.Using a conjecture mapping framework, we describe the design progression of scaffolds in a two-year design-based research IBL physics curriculum.This highlights how and why changes were made to the intervention, and reveals what it took to align the design to the learning processes to ultimately improve learning outcomes.
