Abstract
Cet article porte sur les trois oeuvres pour piano solo du compositeur québécois Serge Provost composées entre 1981 et 1996 : Anagramme (ou Le tombeau de Mishima), Étal-Surgissements et La cloche du temple. Ayant joué moi-même ces trois oeuvres, il s’agit ici pour moi, en tant qu’interprète, de livrer mes impressions sur l’oeuvre et de transmettre au lecteur toute la poésie qui s’y trouve. J’ai retracé l’historique de ces trois oeuvres, ainsi que les notes de programme du compositeur qui sont très enrichissantes. Mon rôle est aussi de donner des pistes aux pianistes quant à l’interprétation de ces oeuvres pour lesquelles la recherche constante du son est primordiale. Comment apprivoiser le texte, en comprendre la grande architecture, être sans cesse à l’écoute des multiples résonances de l’instrument, de l’espace-temps, de la liberté dans le rubato ? La musique de Serge Provost nous parle d’âme et de beauté. En dernière partie de l’article, mes souvenirs d’une récente visite à ce grand créateur.
