Abstract
In response to growing climate catastrophes and housing crises in colonially named Kamloops, British Columbia, the author in this chapter recounts her work as a feminist scholar and comedic performer working in collaboration with two Indigenous artists. The author positions herself as a white, cisgendered, queer woman employed in a neoliberal university on settler-occupied Indigenous lands. She explores the personal and social contradictions in which she finds herself and ways comedic performance can challenge these constructs to address mounting environmental and housing crises while co-creating more radical and caring democracies. Stories include the humorous adventures her alter-ego character, and those of her collaborators, undertake using mock webinar performances that involve floating porta-pottis, growlers of beer, charcuterie boards, pond scum smoothies, and other metaphoric devices. Their efforts are designed to “hack together” new consciousnesses, relationships, and a more just democratic world.
