Abstract
Le rapprochement des cultures algonquines, françaises et anglo-américaines entre les provinces maritimes canadiennes et la Nouvelle-Angleterre sont à l’origine de nombreuses études sur cet espace transfrontalier (borderland) singulier. Cet article se concentre sur un évènement historique marquant la fin de cette cohabitation difficile au XVIIIe siècle: la déportation de plus de 3000 acadiens en 1755 de NouvelleÉcosse vers d’autres colonies britanniques. Les rivalités franco-britanniques en Amérique du Nord, la peur des alliances franco-amérindiennes – en particulier les Micmacs –, la progression au Nord et à l’Est de la frontière de la Nouvelle-Angleterre nourrie par un projet impérial appuyé par le renouveau messianique du révérend Jonathan Edwards, semblent être autant de facteurs ayant impliqué la Nouvelle-Angleterre dans la dispersion forcée des communautés acadiennes en 1755.
