Groenland, tu es sans fond. Groenland, tu tombes à l’infini. Tant le parcours idéologique que la poésie d’Aqqaluk Lynge participent de l’histoire fascinante de son pays. Né à Aasiaat en 1947, il a consacré sa vie à montrer à quel point s’avère cruciale pour les Groenlandais la nécessité de conserver les bases d’une culture traditionnelle tout en s’autorisant un accès à la modernité. À la fois poète, homme politique – il est l’un des fondateurs du parti indépendantiste groenlandais –, cinéaste et intellectuel, il défend avec ardeur l’idée d’une identité pan-inuite contemporaine. Chez lui, le danger qui menace n’est pas que collectif ; il atteint à l’essence même de l’homme alors que le poète ressent sa désunion avec le monde. La collection « Jardin de givre » vise la réédition, pour la recherche et l’enseignement, d’œuvres significatives, mais épuisées, liées à l’imaginaire nordique, hivernal et de l’Arctique. Avec une introduction, des notes et une chronologie de Marianne Stenbaek, professeure à l’Université McGill, une traduction en français de Catherine Ego et un avant-propos de Daniel Chartier, professeur à l’Université du Québec à Montréal.
