57 Fédération des Sociétés Saint-Jean-Baptiste du Québec Un Conseil national de l'éducation plutôt qu'un ministère 1962 La Fédération provinciale des Sociétés Saint-Jean-Baptiste soumet un long mémoire philosophique à la commission Parent, qui propose une vision assez traditionaliste de l'éducation.Celle-ci doit demeurer essentiellement confessionnelle.La Fédération reprend en partie une proposition de structure mise de l'avant par sa section montréalaise dans son mémoire à la Commission Tremblay : la création d'un « Conseil national de l'éducation » ayant compétence sur toutes les institutions d'enseignement, y compris les collèges privés, les écoles techniques et même les universités, juridictions ayant à ce jour échappé au Conseil de l'instruction publique et à ses comités confessionnels.Une telle proposition pointe dans la direction d'un ministère de l'éducation ; mais voilà un Rubicon que la Fédération se garde bien de franchir.La FSSJB formule enfin une idée qui aura une postérité : que tous ceux dont la langue maternelle n'est pas l'anglais soient tenus de fréquenter l'école de langue française.Cette idée trouvera son accomplissement avec la loi 101 de 1977.
