Abstract

fetched live from OpenAlex

The first edition of the Handbook of Moral and Character Education published in 2008 responded to a need for a single-volume resource that would present the work of leading researchers and scholars in the growing field of moral and character education. The second edition, published in 2014, both updated the research and theory in the field and incorporated international authors in recognition that many nations such as Canada, Korea, and China mandate moral/character education as part of their national curriculum. Moreover, within Europe and the United States, the interest in moral education is often subsumed under the broader topic of citizenship education where basic concerns for developing compassionate and morally engaged children and youth are at the heart of these efforts. With this third edition, we maintain that international scope and broaden the diversity of the volume by including leading scholars from outside the largely white European-North American community that has dominated discourse in the field over the past half-century.

Not calibrated prevalence, not ground truth. Human validation pending. The Gemma side is a direct model label for every work in the frame, read from the title-only record. The Codex side is a classifier learned from the 10,348 direct Codex labels and calibrated to design-weighted sample rates; fields without enough sample support carry no Codex call. Candidate is the union of the two sides; consensus is their intersection. These outputs are machine_predicted_unvalidated and are not human labels.

Machine scores (provisional)

The two teacher heads of the student model, read on this work. A score orders the frame for review; it never asserts a category, and the validation status ships verbatim with every row.

Baseline scores from an immature model (maturity gate not passed, 7 training rounds). Scores rank; they never assert a category.
