En 2021, el grupo de investigación RENABBIO, del Servicio Nacional de Aprendizaje (SENA) en el municipio de La Dorada (Caldas, Colombia), realizó un proceso de investigación en torno al diagnóstico del turismo de naturaleza en la subregión del Magdalena caldense. Se trató de un estudio de carácter cualitativo que tuvo el objetivo de conocer, a partir del trabajo con las comunidades locales, prestadoras de servicios turísticos del territorio, cómo se desarrolla esta actividad, sus necesidades, impactos, oportunidades y beneficios, así como el estado actual de los atractivos turísticos de naturaleza. La recolección y el análisis de la información se sustentaron en el diagnóstico generado del trabajo de campo y en el proceso de actualización del inventario de recursos y atractivos turísticos según la metodología del Ministerio de Comercio, Industria y Turismo (2010). El presente artículo da cuenta de lo alcanzado en esta investigación en torno al contexto geográfico e histórico del Magdalena caldense, sus potencialidades, oportunidades y relación con la actividad del turismo de naturaleza.
