Abstract
Au XXe siècle au Québec se développent les médias de masse, notamment la presse féminine. Celle-ci est très importante pour transmettre aux familles les nouvelles manières de faire modernes d’une société en pleine croissance. D’ailleurs, les médias sont souvent perçus comme des vecteurs importants de normes et de comportements. Or, il y a lieu de croire que les pratiques alimentaires sont davantage le produit des représentations de ces normes et les médias de masse sont excellents à en produire. C’est dans cet esprit que sont étudiées les recettes de cuisine des chroniques culinaires de Châtelaine, le plus vieux magazine du genre. Celles-ci nous permettront de savoir comment, à travers des représentations simples, elles transposent les normes alimentaires officielles publiées par le gouvernement canadien. Nos analyses montrent que les recettes de cuisine transposent des normes alimentaires, mais aussi d’autres, plus sociales, qui sont liées à des styles de vie encouragés par la bourgeoisie des sociétés modernes.
