Abstract
Abstract This article designates the UN Secretary-General as the depositary of the Convention and lists the six authentic languages of the Convention. The Arabic, Chinese, English, French, Russian and Spanish texts of the Firearms Protocol are deposited with the Secretary-General of the United Nations. It also emphasizes that the Secretary-General of the United Nations is designated as depositary of the Protocol. The article cites Article XIX(2) of the draft prepared by Canada in 1998 that designated the Secretary-General as the depositary for the Firearms Protocol. It uses the same language as Article 41 of the United Nations Convention Against Transnational Organized Crime (UNTOC).
